Repotting

How to repot a plant?

While it might appear daunting, transferring your plant to a new pot is actually quite simple and necessary for its well-being. To begin, prepare a larger planter by filling it with soil and creating a small indentation in the center. Carefully extract your plant from its original pot, ensuring the roots remain unharmed. It may be necessary to gently tap the bottom of the pot. Then, place the plant into the hole, adjust its position, and cover it with additional soil. Firmly press down on the soil to secure the plant in place. Water the plant lightly and your task is complete.

There are several methods for propagating a houseplant. One common technique involves taking a leaf cutting, dipping it in rooting powder, and then planting it in moist soil to encourage growth. Another option is to take a stem cutting, about 3-5 inches long just below a leaf node, dust it with rooting powder, and plant it in potting soil. For some plant varieties, it may be more effective to place the cutting in a jar of cold water until roots begin to develop before transferring it to soil.

Climate

How do I increase the humidity for my plants?

In the cooler, drier months, you may need to increase the humidity in your home to ensure your plants remain healthy. Fortunately, this task is quite simple. Some plants benefit from regular misting, which can be easily done with a spray bottle. Others may thrive better with the use of pebble trays, as they help elevate the moisture level in the plant's surroundings. Humidifiers serve as an effective method to boost the moisture content in your living space, benefiting both your plants and yourself. Alternatively, relocating your plants to a naturally more humid environment such as the kitchen or bathroom can also be a practical solution.

How do I take care of plants in the summer?

As plants primarily grow during the summer, it is essential to note that they will require more frequent watering. Therefore, it is important to regularly inspect the soil for moisture levels. Remember that plants are susceptible to sunburn, so if your plant prefers lower light levels, ensure it is placed in a shady and cool spot. Additionally, pruning the plants by removing any unhealthy leaves or branches will promote further growth.

How do I take care of plants in the winter?

During the winter season, most plants go through a period of reduced growth, requiring less frequent watering. It is advisable to relocate your plants to a sunnier area to optimize their exposure to light since daylight hours are shorter in winter. Maintaining a room temperature of 12-18°C is essential, and it is advisable to keep them away from windows at night.
